I’m definitely a big believer in celebrating the New Year right!  Getting together with family and friends, eating way too much food, playing games, and having so many laughs as we countdown our way to the New Year is our kind of heaven.  These simple New Year’s Eve party favors add such a fun flare to any New Year’s celebration I couldn’t resist.  I have all of the details for you!

Simple New Year’s Eve Party Favors:

I had so much fun as I browsed our way through Oriental Trading looking for New Year’s Eve party supplies.  With so many fun things to add to our party favors it was hard to narrow down the options.  Seriously, these top hats…I’m in love!

I wanted to dress up the top hats by adding this “Happy New Year” script.  It was super simple to cut out with gold sparkly card stock, and then I glued it right to the hats.  Add this festive gold ribbon, and these hats are ready to party with you all night!

It’s officially Santa season and I don’t want anyone to be unprepared for his monumental visit! Everyone knows Santa gets a serious craving for cookies when he is delivering gifts around the world, so why not serve them on a plate with a personal flare!?

This Cookies for Santa Christmas Party gives your guests the opportunity to decorate their own plate for the big guy himself.  I have everything you need so you will have more time to focus on the fun.  This party is such a blast, even the adults will want to join in.

This party could also be combined with a Christmas cookie exchange and be extra fun!

Have you ever decorated your own dishes? This is seriously so fun!!  I did it with my hubby on a date night and we had a ball!  With the Christmas music cranked, we just let our creative juices flow.  When I say this is a party for all ages, I mean it…it was a blast!!  And what could be better than a personalized plate to leave out for that special visitor on Christmas Eve?

There’s no right or wrong way to decorate these, so let’s get started.

How to Decorate Your Cookies for Santa Plate:

Decorating your plates couldn’t be simpler, but there are a few tips you need to know!

Tip #1– Only use food safe paint!  I used Painted by Me-bake at home ceramics (affiliate) which I found on Amazon.  They worked great. (You can find them at fabric or craft stores also.)  Once you are done you bake the dishes in your oven for 40 minutes to set the paint.

Tip #2– Using the bottom rack in the over was too hot and discolored our paint slightly. The plates that were placed on the center of the oven worked best.

Tip #3-The paints can be wiped off before they are baked, so it’s low pressure to come up with fun designs knowing they can be corrected.

Each of your guests will leave the party with their plate they made, full of cookies, and just in time for Santa to come for his visit!

Party Foods:

I simply served milk and cookies to my guests.  Everyone loves milk and cookies and it’s a perfect time of year for it!  Milk bottles are an easy way to add some decor to your food table, giving you both fun and function.

This party could also be a fun cookie exchange party.  Everyone brings their favorite cookies, decorates a plate, and then leaves with a plate full of an assortment of cookies from the other guests.  It makes a perfect neighborhood party.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, I love everything about it and one of my favorite things is being in the school that day to see all the little cuties dressed up for Halloween and helping with class parties!

I also know just how busy this time of year can get and how crazy it can be for moms when you are scrambling to put together costumes and make treats and have everything ready for the big day. If you’re in charge of a Halloween party in the classroom as well, it can be hard! So I’ve put together some fun and easy school Halloween party ideas so that you can have that party all planned for you!

Guess what? I tried this out in a third-grade classroom last year and it was a huge hit!

Usually, the school Halloween parties that I run are broken into small groups where the kids rotate through activities. So I’ve broken this class party down into 2 games, a craft, and a snack that they can do in small groups.

This “Bag of Tricks” Halloween game is so fun!  My sister (I told her we would give her a shout out) was where I got this idea, and I thought it was such a fun game!  Halloween calls for a little gross, and a little mystery and this Halloween kids game has both.  You probably have most everything you need in your pantry which makes it even better.

Here’s another fun game to play for Halloween, a Halloween Scavenger Hunt for the kids. And this one is super easy too!

The idea here is that you will print out some Scavenger Hunt boards for the kids to use. Then I’ve got little cards with cute characters for you to cut out and hide either in the classroom or around the school or your house or wherever you are throwing the party. The kids will have to go around and find each of the Halloween characters and mark them off on their board. When they find them all, they win!

I always include a craft station at our parties, the kiddos love it and they get to be creative!  My number one rule with crafts is to keep it simple!!  This helps you keep your sanity and the kids love simple and easy crafts.  This craft is super fun and simple, decorating snack bags.  All you need is some basic craft supplies-pompoms, pipe cleaners, stickers, googly eyes, foam shapes, pattern paper, glue sticks, and of course colorful paper sacks.  Let the kids get creative and design their own personal treat bag.  They will love it!!

Here’s a simple Halloween school snack idea for the party. It’s a mixture of all sort of things kids would like mixed up in a trail mix style mix. You really can add anything you want to this mix. I’ll share a few of our ideas, but use whatever works for you! I thought this would be a good one because you could have parents from the class send in different items and then all you need to do is mix them up in a big bowl or cauldron:

Big hair, lab coat, safety goggles, and a crazy look in his eyes…I have just described my friends hubby (minus the big hair)!  When one of the Fun-Squared ladies is married to a scientist you know I have to throw a mad scientist party.  Being married to a chemist gives my friend all kinds of insight into a madman on the hunt for the next discovery.  So grab your safety glasses and join us as I show you how to put together this fun party.

How to Throw a Fun Mad Scientist Party:

This party is perfect for a birthday party, Halloween party, or for any aspiring scientist.  I have everything you need to make your party a success.  As every good scientist knows, to make the perfect formula there are steps that need to be followed.  Let’s break this down step by step.

Mad Scientist Decoration Ideas:

The color scheme for this party is orange, green, and purple.  I wanted it to have a bright, fun flare and also loved that this could work for a Halloween party as well.

I have these fun periodic table letters for you to print off and use as a background.  The letters come straight from the periodic table and spell out Science. (I had to get a little creative with Europium to make it work in the word science.)

I also thought it could be fun to use some quirky textbooks as a decoration, so we created some goofy book titles, then wrapped some books in paper (matching our party colors) and glued the textbook titles to them.

Science Bingo:

Kids always love a good round of Bingo (and as moms I love it too because it’s so easy to pull together). I’ve put together some simple printable Bingo boards covered in all things science. There are 8 Bingo boards, so if you are playing this with a larger group (like a class) you’ll need to break them into smaller groups to play.

Then, all you need to do is print the boards. The last page has little playing cards that you can cut out and draw from to call out for the kids. Then the kids mark each science picture on their board as you call it out. The first one to get five in a row wins.

Guess the Potion:

This is such a fun party game.  Your guests need to be a little bit brave for this game, but I promise not to make them squirm too much! 

Basically, this game involves taste testing “potions” and trying to guess what they are.  You will need 5-10 different types of drinks.  Keep your drink selection simple if you are playing with a younger crowd, but if you have an older group go ahead and make it a little harder. 

I used flasks to pour our “potions” into because they are so cute and keeps things anonymous.  If you don’t have flasks, you can take off the labels or use pitchers. (I got my flasks at Michael’s-here’s some from Amazon.)

Give each player a small cup, and start by pouring one of the drinks in each cup.  Each player will then taste it and mark on the game card what their guess is making sure to number each drink.  Repeat this process until you have tasted each one.

Reveal the names of the drinks and let each player correct their game card.  A fun addition to this game is adding fun drink names to each drink.  For example, you could have Sprite as the drink and name it “phosphorous solution.”

Mad Scientist Party Activities:

Making slime seemed like an obvious choice for a science-themed party. Because this is a mad scientist party, it can be fun to add something creative like Slime Ballz or glitter or make it glow in the dark for an extra “mad” scientist twist.

I just used an easy recipe for the slime that I found online, but you can use any recipe that you love. Let the kids make this with you as a fun activity to do during the party, then they can take it home with them at the end. And storing it in a beaker just adds to the fun.

Food is the center of every party…right? I’ve got a few simple and fun food ideas for you.

Build Your Own Pizza:

If you’re throwing this party in your home with a smaller group of kids, it could be fun to let them get crazy and create their own concoctions-just like a mad scientist does with his solutions (or his monster). Give each child a pair of safety goggles and even a lab coat and let them go to work concocting. Give each child a pizza crust and have the toppings ready and let them create their pizza.

Want an easier way to do this? Try it with a cookie or a cupcake. Give them the base and let them frost and decorate how they want.

I also have some cupcake toppers that you can use if you want to make cupcakes ahead and serve them at your party. Simply cut out the toppers, tape them to a lollipop stick and stick them down into the frosting.

I added some fun sprinkles to make them look quirkier.

Over the past few years, I’ve spent TONS of time in Hobby Lobby and inevitably find myself in the party aisle drooling over the fun party decor…straws, cute plates, invitations, decorations, they have everything to make us want to plan a party!  To say my mind explodes with ideas is somewhat of an understatement…I seriously can hardly contain myself!

Every time I went I said, “I need to plan a party.”  This happened so often, I finally decided to start a blog where I could do exactly that….throw parties!!  So here I am…throwing a Sweet 16 Birthday Party inspired by Hobby Lobby. Tons of Sweet 16 Birthday Party Ideas for you here!

Sweet 16 Birthday Party Ideas:

Nothing is sweeter for a sixteenth birthday than a candy themed party! Take that Sweet 16 theme and make it literal with this fun party filled with all things sweet! I did a lot of candy but you could do anything sweet-cake, donuts, cookies, you name it. If it’s sweet, it fits the theme.

I threw this Sweet 16 party on a budget of $100 and it was easy! You can keep this party inexpensive with fun touches and bold accent items to make it pop.

I headed to Hobby Lobby with $100 in my pocket and scouted out all of the great supplies.

I picked a bunch of fun supplies from the Candylicious line (find that on the party row) and then added our touches from there-all things bright and colorful to make this party fun!

A couple of tips if you are trying to throw this Sweet 16 party on a budget:

• Go for things that have a big impact like the bright color plates that I grabbed. They didn’t cost a lot but they really added to the party spread.
• Get your candy at a store that sells it in bulk. I have a local store that has bins of this stuff, so I hit them up and grabbed some fun (cheaper) candy.
• Remember that simple is great! Sixteen-year-olds aren’t going to need you to entertain them with a ton of fancy party games. Pick something they love to do (scavenger hunt, movie night, home manicures, etc.) and let that be the activity for the party.

Now let’s break down these cute Sweet 16 Birthday party ideas!

Sweet 16 Party Invitations:

A good party’s got to start off with great invitations and to get my guests ready for the “sweet” theme, I decided to attach the invitations to colorful lollipops.

Because you KNOW you’re going to be happy to be invited to that party when the invitation shows up looking like that!

I’ve got a free printable invitation for you to use for your party, and you can customize it to work just right for you!

Sweet 16 Birthday Party Decorations:

A key element for me that was pivitol to these sweet 16 birthday party ideas, was to have the party be bright and colorful, just like candy.

Did you notice the super bright and colorful backdrop I used for our party?  It was fast to put together and added so much to the party.  Here’s what you need:

• Foam Board
• Party Fans
• Candy Cut-Outs
• Packing Tape

All you need to do is arrange the fans and candy cut-outs how you like and then tape them to the board.

For a fun punch of color on the party table, I made a candy birthday bouquet. Super simple to make and it made the table look GREAT! This could be used then as party favors-let them take home a lollipop-or make it as a gift for the birthday girl (or boy).

To make this fun Candy Birthday Bouquet, you’ll need:

• Candylicious Birthday Favor Box
• Floral Foam Block
• Lollipops and Suckers
• Tissue Paper

Start by cutting your foam block to fit inside the box:

Start sticking your lollipops in, making sure that your tallest ones are in the back and that the weight is evenly distributed.

Keep filling until you’ve got a bunch in there, then cut your tissue paper into small squares and stuff it in around the candy until your bouquet is full and colorful! Put that in your party spread and it’s going to look GREAT!

If you are setting a table for dinner or the cake or any food, layering several plates makes a nice impact on your table (and I can’t resist polka dots!). Aren’t these adorable! I rolled utensils in napkins and tied more curly cue ribbon on and attached a little candy tag.

I also loved these little plastic candy favors and filled them full of colorful Sixlets (both found in the party aisle at Hobby Lobby).

Such a simple touch to add to the party and a very easy party favor!

And, no Sweet 16 Birthday Party is complete without a candy station so that the guests can take home candy of their own! I got a variety of jars and filled them with an assortment of candy. And how cute are these little scoops?!

Sweet 16 Birthday Party Food Ideas:

When I was brainstorming sweet 16 birthday party ideas, I knew it had to involve all things SWEET!

I already showed you the candy station and that could, of course, be part of your food for the party. If you want to go all in on the “Sweet” theme, you could have anything sweet. Here are some ideas:

• Donuts (how about a fun donut bouquet)
• Cake or Cupcakes
• Brownies
• Ice Cream Sundaes
• Parfaits
• Crepe Bar

OK, let’s be honest, this list could go on and on. It’s just fun to throw a sweet 16 themed birthday party because there are so many fun ideas!

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake:

For a big impact for the party table, I decided to do a fun cake. I grabbed some cake pans, sparkly numbers, and a super fun cake stand that worked perfectly for the party.  Since I knew I could use a 40% off coupon at the register for the cake stand-so this still stayed well within our budget!

I love how this cake turned out! So simple to make and just looks so cute!

To make this cake you will need:

• Round cake pans (I used 6 inch)
• 1 cake mix
• White frosting
• Curling ribbon in lots of colors
• Glitter numbers (on the cake decorating aisle in Hobby Lobby)

Bake your cake (1 layer at a time for a total of 2 layers if you only have 1 pan) and allow them to cool completely. Frost the cake, then top with curling ribbon and the numbers. This adds such a fun element to the party table!

I also did some colorful cupcakes using bright cupcake wrappers from the Candylicious product line. I designed cupcakes toppers to match and I’ve got them for you!

I have been the mom who is up the night before trying to figure out what to do and scouring the internet for kid’s school Christmas party ideas. How fun are these cup cozies? And this couldn’t be a simpler craft to put together.  I let our kiddos give it a try and they absolutely loved it!

Supplies Needed:

• Hot Cups with Lids (affiliate link)
• Corrugated Card Stock
• Template for the Cup Cozy
• Googly Eyes
• Pom Poms
• Pipe Cleaners
• Foam Shape Cut Outs (We Found Pre-made Packages at Hobby Lobby but any Craft Store will Have Them)

Print the template we provide (Template for the Cup Cozy), trace, and cut out the cup cozy.  If you think the kiddos are old enough, they can cut out their own. Otherwise cut them ahead of time.

I used hot glue to attach the cup cozy to the cup.  Glue dots would work great too.  Aren’t these little guys so cute!?

Hot Chocolate Bar Ideas:

Once the cups are decorated, let the kiddos build a perfect cup of hot chocolate at a hot chocolate bar!!  So yummy and they will love adding their hot chocolate favorites!

• Hot Chocolate
• Torani Drink Flavorings
• Marshmallows
• Sprinkles
• Whip Cream
• Pepperidge Farms Rolled Wafers
• Candy Canes

How fun is this hot chocolate bar?!  I suggest reading Christmas stories while the children enjoy their hot chocolate (I have ideas with links to some books at the end of the post)!

Don’t Eat Pete Printable Christmas Game:

Supplies Needed:

• Don’t Eat Pete Printable Christmas Game Board
• Candy, Marshmallows, Gold Fish (anything to fill in the spots on the board)

How to Play:

Cover each character with the candy (or whatever food you brought to use).  Choose one person to be “It”, and send them out of the room.  The rest of the group chooses which character to be “Pete.”  The “It” person comes back and starts to eat the candy off the board in whatever order they want.  When they reach to grab the “Pete” all the other players yell “DON’T EAT PETE” and that “It” person isn’t it anymore.  Choose and new “It” and repeat until all the children have had a turn to be “It.”
